When all other plants have flowered Cyclamen coum comes into its own. They come from mountains and coastal regions of southern and eastern Black Sea, northern Iran, southern Turkey, Syria and The Lebanon. They have kidney shaped dark green leaves, some with silver markings. The flowers are in shades of pink or carmine with darker markings in their throat. They grow in moderately fertile soil in partial shade and are very good under deciduous trees where they slowly spread to form carpets of colour from December to early Spring. The spent flower stalks coil down onto the soil surface where they self-seed. Plant the tubers 3-5cm(1-2in) deep. Mulch with leaf mold annually for added protection. Height x spread 8cm x 10cm.
