We have had our two pet budgies “Spring” and “Summer”  since November 2009 and they are still entertaining customers in the shop but now they have competition from our outdoor aviary. Situated on the patio it is home to more budgies, zebra finches and a cockatiel called “Billie” donated by customers. We hope to add to our collection over the coming months especially if the current residents breed.

 Varieties of Acer palmatum  are small deciduous trees which have hand-shaped leaves,  often finely cut,  in green, yellow, purples  and various shades of red. In autumn they give a spectacular display as their leaves change colour to orange, bronze and fiery reds.

Acer palmatum Kamagata

They need an acid soil and make good subjects for containers where they can be grown in ericaceous compost. 

Some shade from bright sun is beneficial especially for the yellow leaved types to protect them from burning.
