Summerhill Aviary

Summerhill Aviary

This spring saw an exciting new addition to the Garden Centre. We have had our two pet budgies “Spring” and “Summer”  since November 2009 and they are still entertaining customers in the shop but now they have competition from our outdoor aviary. Situated on the patio it is home to more budgies, zebra finches and a cockatiel called “Billie” donated by customers, in March, at the age of 18 months (Born January 2011). Billie now has a friend called “Elvis”, born June 2011.

The budgies came from a member of staff  who bred them at home in his outdoor aviary . They are both male and female and were born between 2010 and 2011. Their colour range is Pied, Green, and Blue.

In February this year another member of staff raised some Quails in an incubator and kindly brought some in for the aviary. They are in the traditional brown/fawn shades and are both male and female. As they are used to be handled by humans they are very tame.

The zebra finches were introduced in April this year and we estimate that they were borne in November 2011. They are both male and female and have already hatched one baby – a female – in May 2012.

All our birds are outdoor bred so are well able to cope with the British weather so you need have no concerns about their welfare.

“Thank you for allowing dogs in your store, so nice not to be treated like a second class citizen. From a very pleased customer and a very well behaved dog (a Rottie)”
